Meet the Governors of The Blake CofE (Aided) Primary School

Mission Statement

The Governors are a well informed and committed group who work as a team to serve the school and foster its aims.  They are entrusted to maintain and develop the school's distinctive Christian character.  The Governing Body act as a critical friend to the school, by providing support and constructive challenge.

We are a group of volunteers who work closely with Mr Edwards Grundy (Headteacher) in a wide range of roles within the School, both on a day to day basis and also looking at the longer term plans for the School.

We meet, in School, about six times a year as a Full Governing Body.  Each time we meet we meet in a different classroom or area so we can see the work that is being displayed and get a feel for what is going on in the School.  We also meet regularly as smaller committees, looking in greater depth at matters of finance, curriculum, property and personnel.  These committees feedback to the Full Governing Body but may also have tasks delegated to them by the Governing Body.

There is huge variety to the work of a Governing Body.  The Curriculum Committee looks at School policies and members of staff are invited to attend meetings to explain current practice and answer questions about the policies and how they relate to what takes place in the classroom.  The Curriculum Committee also look at the School Improvement Plan and consider how the School is meeting the challenges it has set itself.

The Property Committee deal with anything and everything to do with the School premises, they also deal with matters of health and safety.  The Property Committee consider everything from the replacement of worn carpets, to the improvement of our School kitchen to the provision of a disabled parking space.  They undertake regular walkabouts of the School site and work closely with our site manager.

As a Church School the Governors are responsible for employing all staff.  The Personnel Committee interview all prospective staff and look at any staffing/personnel matters, including policies relating to employment, which with a staff of 64 currently being employed in the School is a considerable task

We receive training and support from the Local Authority and the Diocese to help us fulfil our role effectively.  The support of the Headteacher and staff is also critical.

Governors are always happy to be contacted and to hear the views of parents and children.  Many Governors can be found each day in the School playground collecting their children.  Governors can also be contacted via the School Office, either by leaving a message or you can email us direct with non confidential matters only please via the clerk at:

RESULTS OF THE SCHOOL UNIFORM SURVEY

The Blake School Governors would like to thank all those parents who completed the recent uniform survey. We have found the results very helpful and are considering the actions we need to take in response. As a result of the survey, we plan to make some changes very soon, including making the uniform order form available to download from the school website and identifying more clearly those items which are compulsory and those which are optional. Other issues raised will be given further consideration and reported back in due course.

The results of the survey are now available here and on the Governors notice board in the main school corridor. If you have any further queries about the survey please contact Mr. David Sarbutts, the chair of Governors.
