Year 6 Meet the New Archbishop

Y6 at St ChadsChildren from year 6 were among the first people to meet the new Archbishop of Birmingham, Bernard Longley, while they were on a trip to St Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham. this was the first time that children from St Joseph's had visited the mother church of the Diocese and their visit was made doubly thrilling as they were caught up in the excitement as the new Archbishop was introduced to the press.

Our Year 6 reporters write:

When I stepped into the Cathedral it was big, tall, spacious and had very odd patterns which were Gothic. Then we had a tour. My favourite bit was seeing the tombs of lots of important people, also it was cool thast they had the bones of St Chad. We had a photo with the new Archbishop of Birmingham called Bernard Longley. He was named the ninth Archbishop of Birmingham. I had to Altar Serve. I was so nervous, but excited at the same time. I did it, all my nerves had gone, I was so happy that I had served in a cathedral.’

‘The ceiling of the Cathedral was very high and had a pattern of red and yellow. I felt sudden peace at the sight of the wonderful Cathedral’s elements and the mellow atmosphere was soothing. The best part, in my opinion, was when we went down to the crypt. It felt spooky and that was added to by the echo in most of the rooms. All in all I think St Chad’s Cathedral was brilliant.
