Extended Curriculum

At Blewbury we have a very thematic approach to the curriculum. We cover the National Curriculum through the progression of skills in all the subjects but each term we have a holistic area of study. We cover a wide range of genre in Literacy often with strong links to our themes eg writing explanations, reports, letters, persuasive writing as well as fictional writing.

Maths is mostly taught discretely but is organised so that topics such as 2D and 3D shapes and data handling are timed to be used approriately alongside other elemnts of the theme.

Science similarly can be taught both within the theme and discretely.

Our curriculum is very creative both in it's content but also in the way that it is taught, teachers have special regard for the way that pupil's learn ie are they kinaesthetic, visual or  aural learners. Do they like doing, seeing or hearing information?

Children can learn a range of musical instruments as well as having some opportunities in KS2 for whole class instumental lessons. We have a strong emphasis on Physical Education and all children should receive at least two hours PE time a week.

All classes have an opportunity to learn a foreign language, one class even doing their assembly in German - retelling Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
